Applying plaster to interior walls and ceilings is not only very esthetical, but can also form fire-resistant and relatively soundproof surfaces. One can make either smooth or textured abrasion-resistant finishes.

Some explanation of a plasterers job:
Applying different types of plaster coating requires different techniques. When applying the brown coat, a plasterer sprays or trowels the mixture onto the surface, then finish by smoothing it to an even, level surface.
There are a few different kinds of plastering:
- solid plastering - applying wet finishes to surfaces and put protective coverings like pebble-dashing on external walls
- fibrous plastering -involves creating ornamental plasterwork, such as ceiling roses, cornices, columns and architraves, using a mixture of plaster and short fibres shaped with moulds and casts
- dry lining - fixing internal plasterboard or wallboard partitions by fastening them together on a timber or metal frame ready for decorating.
